Roundtable of Wuzhen - Man's place in the world

In April 2008, the Foundation organised, in partnership with the Development Research Centre and Zhejiang province’s authorities, a roundtable in Wuzhen, a town located 100 km South of Shanghai, on the theme: «Crossed views between China and Europe on the 21st century society: man’s place in the world».

Co-chaired by Mr. Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and by Mr. Xu Kuangdi, former Mayor of Shanghai and president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the roundtable gathered about forty French and Chinese participants to think together about man's place in the world, about his relationship with nature, and the definition of his identity and history.

Were members of the French delegation personalities such as:

  • H. E. Mr. Hervé Ladsous, Ambassador of France in China
  • Mr. Pierre Morel, European Union’s Ambassador for Central Asia
  • Mr. Raphaël Hadas-Lebel, president of the Pensions Advisory Council
  • Mr. Thierry Mathou, General Consul of France in Shanghai

The Chinese delegation was mainly composed by:

  • Mr. Li Jiange, Vice-President of DRC
  • Mr. Sun Xiaoyu, former Vice-President of DRC
  • Mr. Cai Fangbo, former Ambassador of China in France
